A classic, a timeless classic. This is the 1998 full-length version of Philips Glass' soundtrack to Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi, released in 1983. It was the first of the 'qatsi' trilogy, and preceded Baraka by a long shot. This version of the soundtrack adds three tracks and includes the original full versions of The Grid and Prophecies. Listening to it in its entirety might induce a feeling of going insane at times (!) but there is no denying the power and brilliance of the music, presented here in its complete form. Bertolt Brecht Sings “Mack the Knife” in a 1929 Recording

Recorded live for TV broadcast throughout Britain, these historic performances have been unseen for nearly 40 years. Filmed with superb camera work and pristine sound, 14 complete performances and 4 bonus performances are included by Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Lonnie Johnson, Big Joe Williams, Lightnin' Hopkins, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Howlin' Wolf, Big Joe Turner, Junior Wells, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Between 1963 and 1966 huge British tours were undertaken by the likes of Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins, Howlin' Wolf, and Junior Wells. This release in the American Folk-Blues Festivals gathers footage from these tours, providing an amazing document of a historic time.

Stéphane Grappelli (26 January 1908 - 1 December 1997) was a French jazz violinist who founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France with guitarist Django Reinhardt in 1934. It was one of the first (and arguably the most famous) of all-string jazz bands.
After the work with Django Reinhardt he did a big number of records with others such as Oscar Peterson, Paul Simon and the classical violinist Yehudi Menuhin.

Django Reinhardt (guitar) and Stephane Grappelli (violin) were stars in the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, which performed in the 1930's in Paris.
The Quintet was extremely popular and played jazz and pop standards from the 1920's and 1930's. Django Reinhardt, on gypsy guitar, was considered a genius. He created a very original style of swing music and influenced jazz dancers and musicians over the past decades.

About This Release:
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, and raised on the lower east side of Manhattan, Ray Lugo has experienced such an enormous variety of music in his life time, from attending gigs by Fania Records super stars with his parents as a young boy, though to being a roadie on the Beastie Boys 'License to Ill' tour, performing in bands, managing bands, running record labels and club nights - Ray has seen the music world from every angle possible.
Rays' teenage years in New York saw him immersed in the vibrant Big Apple music scene, working as a roadie, band manager, studio engineer and label manager before taking to the stage in alternative rock and latin ska bands in the early 1990s and eventually forming Kokolo Afrobeat, who established a worldwide reputation through touring and recordings, Ray never lost that love for latin music he had experienced in his early years and often talked about a possible latin music project when he could find the time. In 2010, he finally achieved that dream. Ray Lugo & The Boogaloo Destroyers were born!
For the record, boogaloo was the New York fusion of latin music, rhythm & blues and soul which immediately became the soundtrack for second and third generation Puerto Ricans raised on son, guaracha, bomba and plena but who equally loved Tamla Motown, James Brown and Ray Charles! With it's English and often double entendre lyrics and street-slang, it appealed to everyone. It didn't matter if you were black, white, brown, Latino, Italian, Jewish or African-American.....anybody could dance the boogaloo!
On this album, Ray's repertoire consists of classics from the likes of El Gran Combo, Willie Rosario, Ray Barretto, and Mongo Santamaria though Ray has re-arranged some tracks and added new lyrics and choruses to others. From the opening track 'Soy El Rey Del Boogaloo' to the final song 'Lugo's Boogaloo', this album proves in the 21st century, boogaloo is still alive and kicking in New York City and Ray Lugo & The Boogaloo Destroyers are the leaders of the new school!
