Adrian Younge Presents the Delfonics on Wax Poetics Records drops March 12.
“Enemies”—written by Los Angeles multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/producer Adrian Younge and Philly soul legend William Hart—is from the forthcoming Wax Poetics Records March 12 release Adrian Younge Presents the Delfonics.
The Delfonics are already part of the hip-hop canon, thanks to RZA and others, but now “Enemies” has been sampled on Younge’s upcoming album Twelve Reasons to Die, featuring Ghostface Killah, who previously worked with Delfonics lead singer William Hart on “After the Smoke Is Clear,” from his 1996 classic, Ironman.
When writing the instrumental track for Hart, Younge—heavily influenced by Wu-Tang’s classic sound—imagined a beat RZA would have made circa ’96 for Ghost’s debut album. Serendipitously, a few months later, Younge was afforded the opportunity to compose an album for Ghostface, and when executive producer RZA heard the Delfonics tracks, an immediate connection was made, and “Enemies” was retailored for Twelve Reasons to Die.
Today, hip-hop history has come full circle.
