A potent blend of songs about God, War & LSD delicately & seamlessly arranged to bring their individual messages across... 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' by the Beatles, 'Sky Pilot' by Eric Burdon & the Animals and 'Big Sky' by the Kinks. Note that the 3 songs are from the late 60's when creativity seemed to rime naturally with questioning The Man in all his incarnations.

A rare gem of a pop song gets BOOTIK attention ! Ray Davies & The Kinks classic 'Dead End Street'There's a crack up in the ceiling,And the kitchen sink is leaking.Out of work and got no money,A sunday joint of bread and honey. What are we living for? Two-roomed apartment on the second floor. No money coming in,The rent collectors knocking, trying to get in.We are strictly second class,We don't understand,(dead end!)Why we should be on dead end street.(dead end!)People are living on dead end street.(dead end!)Gonna die on dead end street.

Given Bowie's penchant for creating characters for and about himself (Ziggy Stardust among others) plus his well-known battle with drugs, most Bowie experts agree that Major Tom is an allegorically autobiographical character.

In simpler times, the original version of this song caused a harpie to be scowled at. Now these hungry, filthy creatures who snatched food, objects and even people screech on TV for more privatize the profits & socialize cost shenanigans... Dirty work indeed ;)

A songwriter's songwriter; Ray Davies astonishing catalogue of classics remains one of the smartest, original, deep felt & most beautiful accomplishment in pop musicRay Davies started writing this a few years before The Kinks recorded it. At first, it was called "Liverpool Sunset," but when The Beatles released "Penny Lane," he changed the words so it wouldn't look like a rip-off. Waterloo Bridge is in London, and the lyrics are about a guy looking out of a window at two lovers meeting at Waterloo Station. Davies used to cross Waterloo Bridge every day when he was a student at Croydon Art School.Ray Davies brought this to the band while they were in the middle of recording the album. He was reluctant to share the lyrics because they were so personal. In a Rolling Stone magazine interview, his brother (and Kinks guitarist) Dave Davies said Ray felt "it was like an extract from a diary nobody was allowed to read."The line, "Terry meets Julie, Waterloo Station every Friday night" is about the relationship between actor Terence Stamp and actress Julie Christie.

:: HAVE GUN WILL TRAVELO ;)Best ever song about sexual ambiguity...I met her in a club down in old Soho Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola [LP version:Coca-cola] C-o-l-a cola She walked up to me and she asked me to dance I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola L-o-l-a Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well I'm not the worlds most physical guy But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well we drank champagne and danced all night Under electric candlelight She picked me up and sat me on her knee And said dear boy wont you come home with me Well I'm not the worlds most passionate guy But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola I pushed her away I walked to the door I fell to the floor I got down on my knees Then I looked at her and she at me Well that's the way that I want it to stay And I always want it to be that way for my Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Girls will be boys and boys will be girls It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well I left home just a week before And I'd never ever kissed a woman before But Lola smiled and took me by the hand And said dear boy I'm gonna make you a man Well I'm not the worlds most masculine man But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man And so is Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

"Sunshine Superman" is a song written and recorded by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan. The "Sunshine Superman" single was released in the United States through Epic Records (Epic 5-10045) in July 1966, but due to a contractual dispute the United Kingdom release was delayed until December 1966, where it appeared on Donovan's previous label, Pye Records (Pye 7N 17241). The "Sunshine Superman" single was backed with "The Trip" on both the United States and United Kingdom releases. It has been described as having, "proven to be [one of the] classics of the era," and as, "the quintessential bright summer sing along"."Sunshine Superman" reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and subsequently became the title track of Donovan's third album, Sunshine Superman.[3] A different mix of "The Trip" (without harmonica) is also included in the album. It was the first product from the highly successful three-year collaboration between Donovan and producer Mickie Most and is generally considered to be one of the first examples of the musical genre that came to be known as psychedelia. The song was written for Donovan's future wife Linda Lawrence. The lyrics of the song mention not only Superman, but also another DC Comics superhero, Green Lantern.Chart positions were #1 (US),[3] and #2 (UK). It was Donovan's only single to reach #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 survey. In popular cultureWriter Grant Morrison referenced the song in an issue of Animal Man by creating Sunshine Superman, an African American version of Superman who was a member of the Love Syndicate of Dreamworld, from a world based on the drug culture of the 1960s. Sunshine Superman and his world were wiped out by the Crisis on Infinite Earths, only to be brought back by the Psycho-Pirate before fading away again. Sunshine Superman returned for a brief, non-speaking cameo in Final Crisis #7, in an army of alternate Supermen. The song was covered by Dr. Lonnie Smith recorded live on Move Your Hand in Atlantic City on August 9, 1969. It was also covered by The Sugarman 3 on their debut 1998 album Sugar's Boogaloo.Hardcore punk band Hüsker Dü covered "Sunshine Superman" as a brief 1:56 rendition on their 1983 studio debut Everything Falls Apart.New York punk rock band Alice Donut covers the song (with changed lyrics) on their debut album Donut Comes Alive. On their 1987 album Dream Evil, heavy metal band Dio featured a song entitled "Sunset Superman," possibly in reference to "Sunshine Superman."In 1997, Imani Coppola sampled the instrumental track for her song "Legend of a Cowgirl".

A Rock & Roll family album with a few revealing pictures of da BOOTIK bunch ;)This was one of a trilogy of songs Davies wrote and the Kinks recorded in 1967-1968 that shared this theme. Two of them - this song and "People Take Pictures of Each Other" - are standout tracks on The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society album. "Picture Book" is the more upbeat and happy song, while "People Take Pictures..." has an undercurrent of sadness ("...don't show me no more, please"). The third, "Pictures in the Sand", was only released briefly on The Great Lost Kinks Album in 1973, and has since been available only on bootleg recordings (for some reason Davies has never wanted it released).

A John Lennon favorite, 'GIRL' was recorded on the evening of 11 November 1965, the final night of work on the 'Rubber Soul' album.A touching lead by Louis, some 'artistic breathing' by JF & a powerful C part by the whole BOOTIK bunch, spins this version to unheard heights without compromising the structure, mood nor spirit of this delicate song. A fine piece of work indeed, just like, well... Most women ;)
